The KENNEDY is a classic blend of old vine Barossa Valley Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre varieties. Named as a tribute to the legendary Barossa Vigneron’s who pioneered the planting of the old treasured vineyards, which the Barossa enjoys today.
The Grenache fruit is the ‘soul’ of this blend and is from an exceptionally low yielding 50+ year-old Light Pass Vineyard. Originally planted by the Kennedy Family, with ownership eventually being passed onto the charismatic Leo ‘Joe’ KENNEDY who nurtured the vines for many years, selling his prized fruit to local winemakers.
This is a very exciting wine for us - brooding blueberry lifted sour cherry and a hint of pastrami aromas on the nose, a richly concentrated and rounded mid-palate framed with focused acidity and freshness. And whilst the variety is renowned for producing age-worthy wines, we'd recommend enjoying this as a young wine when the fruits are bright and fresh.
Planted in 1941 these deep rooted vines provide Grenache of exceptional quality. Minimal intervention in the vineyard makes for an amazingly charasmatic wine.
This time-honoured blend is our offering to Zephyrus, Greek God of the West Wind, who is often depicted as a horse due to the speed attributed to this majestic animal. The vineyards of the Greater Barossa are regularly buffeted by cooling Westerly winds creating an ideal temperature range in which to slowly ripen.
Sourced from a 90+ yo Bush Vine vineyard in the Barossa sub-region of Lights Pass.
Pick up this great six-pack containing two bottles each of the 2017 Marschall Shiraz, 2017 Pumpa Cabernet Shiraz and 2017 Kennedy Grenache Shiraz Mourvédre. Each wine a testament & tribute to the commitment of the growers and their role in the Barossa wine story.
Bountiful aromas of ripe blueberry and red liquorice, with a palate loaded with bright, juicy and lovely dark berried fruits and a fine savour line of tannins.
What better resume than a 130 year old vineyard, planted and owned by the one family and is just 400 vines big. Powerful, dark cherry, fragrant all spice aromatics and smooth lingering tannins.
