John Duval Eligo Barossa Shiraz 2015 (RRP$133)
The best Shiraz of vintage from the man who guided winemaking at Penfolds for 16 vintages. A superbly concentrated, yet elegant and refined expression of Barossa Shiraz.

Spinifex La Maline Barossa Shiraz 2016 (RRP$80)
Made by Pete Schell, one of Barossa’s most admired winemakers. From a selection of very old Barossa vineyards averaging 75 years of age planted at higher elevations across the Eden and Barossa Valley. A simply brilliant example of the very best that Barossa Shiraz can be.

Sons of Eden Remus Eden Valley Shiraz 2016 (RRP$82)
From three 50+year old low yielding vineyards in the Eden Valley. The higher altitudes of the Eden Valley combined with lower yields produce intensely flavoured, and beautifully elegant and finely structured wines capable of great longevity.

Hobbs of Barossa ‘Gregor’ Shiraz 2016 (RRP$160)
Greg Hobbs is very serious when he says ‘I don’t make a lot of wine, but I do make very good wine.’ And he certainly has the right building blocks to back up that claim. From a single century-old Shiraz vineyard in Flaxman’s Valley in the Eden Valley, this is a wine of considerable presence and structure. The wine is deep red to almost black in the glass and the flavours seem to linger forever. If you like big, bold and intensely flavoured Barossa Shiraz, this is not too be missed.

Schwarz Wine Company ‘Schiller’ Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016 (RRP $80)
The concept of rarity can be troubling to define, but the facts on this wine are this. From just 400 vines in a vineyard planted in 1881, farmed by 6 generations of the same family. Just 1,700 bottles produced. This is a truly exceptional wine from a rare patch of very, very old Barossa Valley Shiraz.

Massena ‘Stonegarden’ Grenache 2017 (RRP $75)
The rarity of century-old Barossa vineyards is not to be underestimated. And for vineyards planted in the 1850’s you’re talking in the 10’s of hectares. For Grenache, there are just a handful of small vineyards planted over 160 years ago that continue to yield small crops of exceptional fruit, and the Massena Stonegarden vineyard east of the township of Springton in the Eden Valley is one of those. This wine is beguiling in its complexity and utterly delicious. Made in ridiculously tiny quantities – a must buy, must try!
