Artisans of Barossa Grenache 2016
100% Grenache from a single vineyard planted in the 1960’s in a blend of sandy loam and rich alluvial soils to the north of Tanunda on the Barossa Valley floor. A typical yield is less than 2 tonnes per acre. 100% hand harvested, and fermented with the inclusion of 25% whole bunch clusters in small 2 tonne open top fermenters. Cold soaked for 5 days at 8C before being allowed to naturally warm to start fermentation. Hand plunged daily for 17 days before being pressed off to seasoned 500 litre Puncheons for 12 months maturation. This wine was not filtered prior to bottling.
I love the purity and vitality of Grenache, and my approach in the winery is very much around preserving and promoting varietal character, and ensuring the wine is an honest expression of the region and that particular vineyard.
