Artisans of Barossa Rare Batch Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
“My wife Sarah and I grew the fruit for this wine at our Boongarrie Vineyards to the east of the township of Eden Valley. Planted at 480 meters above sea level, the location is perfect for producing top class Cabernet Sauvignon. The soils here are mostly decomposed granite stone over quartz. These sandy soils don’t retain a lot of moisture, hence yields are very low at around 2.5 – 3 tonnes per hectare.
The Cabernet grown at Boongarrie is renowned for its intense blood red colour and flavour concentration. There’s plenty of cassis and dark chocolate on the palate with a touch of cedar and fine, grainy tannins. The finish is long and smooth. 2017 was a benchmark vintage for Eden Valley Cabernet, and this wine is a great example of how well this variety is suited to the region. ” Phil Lehmann – May 2018
