Hobbs of Barossa - New Releases
Hobbs of Barossa ‘Gregor’ Shiraz 2016 (RRP $160)
From what is considered by many to be a benchmark vintage for Barossa, this is a wine for those that seek out the boldest, richest and most flavoursome Shiraz this region can produce. Picked by hand, each of the bunches is placed to dry on racks at the winery before fermentation, in the traditional method of Amarone wines of Italy. This process concentrates and enriches fruit flavours, producing a wine of some considerable magnitude.
Hobbs of Barossa ‘1905’ Shiraz 2016 (RRP $160)
Produced from a single vineyard planted in 1905 in what could only be described as a hidden gem in a pocket of the Barossa, high up in the ranges above Barossa Valley. Here, the vineyards produce some of the district’s most sort after, and most concentrated expressions of Shiraz. The character of this wine can best be described as extravagant, featuring a rich 'lava-like' flow of dark fruit and rich spice flavour. From an A grade vineyard and a stellar vintage, definitely a wine for the cellar or special occasion.
Hobbs of Barossa Ranges ‘Tin Lids’ Aria Secca Shiraz 2017 (RRP $62)
‘Aria Secca’ is an Italian term, meaning ‘air dried’, and refers to the 7-10 days the harvested grapes lie on drying racks at the winery to further concentrate the flavours of Shiraz from a more than a 100-year-old vineyard.
Hobbs of Barossa Ranges ‘Tin Lids’ Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 (RRP $62)
This wine brings together Shiraz grown in the Hobbs vineyard with Cabernet Sauvignon from Phil and Sarah Lehmann’s organically farmed vineyard located along the Keyneton to Eden Valley road. The long and cool growing season in 2017 produced fine and elegant wines. The rich, sweet dark fruit characters of the Hobbs fruit and beautifully integrated with the concentrated blackberry fruits and firm tannins of the Lehmann Cabernet Sauvignon.
