Schwarz New Release 6 Pack
Each New Release pack from Schwarz Wine Co features two bottles each of:
Thiele Road Grenache 2017 (RRP$46)
The Thiele Road vineyard was planted in 1946 by Jason’s father’s uncle and became the foundation of the second wine made by Jason, first released in 2002. The old vineyards produce the type of fruit needed to make great Grenache. Low yields of smaller berries, displaying bright, spiced savoury fruit flavours of great concentration. Barossa Valley old vine Grenache has often been compared in character, texture and flavour with some of the world’s great Pinot Noir, and this wine is a fine example. The 2016 vintage release was rated 96 points by James Halliday, and with 280 dozen produced, this wine will sell out fast.
Nitschke Block Shiraz 2017 (RRP$46)
Jason’s parents planted a vineyard to Shiraz on Nitschke Road near the pioneer village of Bethany in the eastern foothills of the Barossa ranges in 1968. In 2001, Jason approached his father to purchase some of the fruit to make his first wine - just two barrels (less than 80 dozen) that came to mark the beginnings of the Schwarz Wine Company.
The vineyard site features sandy loam soils over subsurface clays, which produces yields of rich and opulent fruit. The vines are hand pruned and the fruit is hand-picked. This is a classic Barossa Shiraz, with loads of generous and concentrated black fruit flavour. Superb drinking as a young wine, but will reward cellaring for 10 years.
Schwarz Wine Company Shiraz 2017 (RRP$35)
This wine typifies the evolution of Barossa Shiraz from ‘oak monster’ in the 1990’s to ‘fruit bomb’ in the 2000’s, to wines today that showcase great flavour but also refined spice and elegant structure. The cooler vintage conditions of 2017 were the perfect setting for producing wines of this ilk. The juicy fruit, fine lines and elegant flavour and structure of this Shiraz make it perfect for drinking as a young wine.
